Romania hosts a special community of around 3000 workers Filipino who celebrate Christmas away from home. Pioneers in the foreign workforce 15 years ago, they have made a significant contribution to the cultural and economic diversity of our country.
Trades and miscellaneous
From the famous Filipino nannies, prized for their care and talent in raising children, to housekeepers, gardeners, drivers and construction workers, the 3000 Filipino workers form a diverse community that has harmoniously merged with Romanian society. They have become an essential part of everyday life, and now, on the eve of Christmas, they are preparing to bring a blend of Filipino and Romanian traditions into their homes.
Romanian delights with Asian flavor
Many of these workers have adopted not only the Romanian workplace, but also the Romanian culture and gastronomy. During the holidays, they gather with other members of the Filipino community to celebrate Christmas. In an atmosphere of unity, they serve traditional dishes from both the Philippines and Romania, reflecting the beautiful diversity of the mixed families already formed among them.
Counselor and community support
Magilyn Albitos, 45, has lived in Romania for 13 years. As a public relations and communication assistant, she provides information about the rules and laws in Romania to Filipino staff and is actively involved in supporting them. She is one of the valued representatives of the Filipino community and has been instrumental in bringing hundreds of Filipino nannies and maids to the country.
„Part of my job is to provide Filipino staff with information about the rules and laws in Romania, and when they ask for my help I do my best to advise them as best I can"said Magilyn Albitos.
Away from their families and, some of them, even their own children
During the holidays, away from their families and, for some, even their own children, workers Filipino are working hard to bring the magic of Christmas to Romania. They meet other compatriots, creating a circle of friends who become a second family. They share the joy of the holidays with their Romanian friends, cooking Asian food and decorating everything in the Christmas spirit, emphasizing their homesickness and gratitude to their loved ones.
„I will be celebrating Christmas with my circle of friends here. We will spend time together, cook Asian food and even decorate everything in the Christmas spirit. For me this season brings a lot of kindness and gratitude to loved ones and friends"said Magilyn Albitos.
