Lately, due to long working hours, which do not always coincide with the children's school or kindergarten hours, more and more families in Romania are turning to the services of specialized nannies, especially from Asia.
And this rising demand has also pushed up their pay, both for full-time and interns, writes The truth.
According to recruitment platforms' websites, nannies can be hired full-time or on an hourly, occasional basis, but there are also applications for in-house nannies.
Here are just some of the job ads:
- "A beautiful family from Otopeni, is looking for a warm and responsible lady who will become the reliable support in taking care of a delicate 5 months old baby girl. We are looking for a woman with real experience in raising babies, who understands the fragility of this beginning of life and honor it with gentleness, commitment and devotion. - "I am looking to hire an in-house nanny in Craiova for my 3 year old boy. I would like to mention that the nanny's duties will be strictly related to the child - no cleaning, no cooking (I have housekeeper hired for that). The schedule I need is Monday 12 noon to Sunday 12 noon, after which the nanny would have 24 hours off until Monday 12 noon again. Also worth mentioning that the child goes to kindergarten Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 12:00, so those 4 hours a day would also be free for the nanny. The salary offered is 5000 lei per month, with food provided on my behalf obviously. The nanny would also come with us on all outings and vacations.
- I am looking for serious and long-lasting collaboration, in time I would like this nanny to become a member of the family," another recruitment platform states.
How much Filipino nannies are paid
Filipino nannies are the most sought-after in our country, renowned for their patience and gentleness with children.
But in their case, the employer, in this case the family, will also have to bear other costs, such as the cost of bringing them back from Asia, which varies between €2,500 and €3,500.
So, Asian nannies are well-trained, attentive and committed, with a good knowledge of English, representing an exclusive service that some foreign recruitment agencies offer to their clients.
"Currently, the salary of a Filipina nanny in Romania varies, but in most cases it is between 500 and 600 euros per month, depending on experience and responsibilities. It is important to note that the Philippines recently issued the DMW Advisory 25 of 2025, a package of reforms designed to protect Filipino domestic workers. It provides, among other things, an increase in the minimum wage from USD 400 to at least USD 500, mandatory annual medical check-ups and the implementation of a "Know Your Employer" (KYE) protocol via video conferencing before signing contracts. The advisory also introduces a digital wellbeing monitoring system, retraining programs and stricter standards for recruitment agencies, all with the aim of ensuring worker protection and promoting ethical recruitment. As a result, in Romania, wages are already in line with these recommendations, reflecting both the professional experience of nannies and ongoing efforts to comply with international standards on the protection of domestic work.", Yosef Gavriel Peisakh, general manager "Work from Asia", a recruitment agency for foreign staff in Romania.
What conditions a nanny in Asia must fulfill
The activity of nannies is regulated by Law No. 167/2014 on the exercise of the profession of nanny. According to it, a nanny can be any person, Romanian or foreign citizen, domiciled or legally residing in Romania, provided that he/she is qualified according to the legal provisions to carry out childcare and supervision services. The activity of a nanny is a qualified one and therefore, in order to work as a nanny, a series of competences acquired through special training and duly attested are required.
A nanny can work as a nanny on the basis of an individual employment contract or, if the nanny is registered as a PFA, she can conclude a service contract with the parents of the child.
Beware, if the parents of the beneficiary child give the nanny a contract with a company that they manage, but which is not authorized to offer nanny services, it is a criminal offense!
In order for a person to be allowed to work as a nanny, the law stipulates the following conditions:

- be a foreign citizen with the right to work in Romania and possess an officially recognized or equivalent qualification for the nanny profession;
- have full capacity;
- be medically fit to exercise the profession, as attested by a medical certificate issued in accordance with the law;
- be psychologically fit; the fulfillment of this condition is proved by the evaluation report issued in accordance with the law;
- have no criminal record, with the exception of culpable offences proven by a criminal record certificate.
The qualification is obtained by diploma, certificate or other nanny title, obtained in accordance with the provisions of Government Ordinance no. 129/2000 on adult vocational training and must be recognized or equivalent, as appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 200/2004 on the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania.
The law also regulates the duties that the nanny has in relation to the child under her care, which include:
- child care and supervision;
- feeding your baby;
- providing first aid in case of illness/accident;
- informing the child's legal representative about the child's progress and informing the employer as a matter of urgency about the occurrence of any
