Romania has recruited 3,000 truck drivers from the Philippines, and steps are also being taken to recruit staff to care for the elderly in specialized nursing homes. The transport market is currently going through a major crisis due to the massive departure of Romanian drivers to countries with much more attractive salaries. To solve this crisis, some 3 000 Filipinos have already been recruited, who meet the specific requirements and have driving licenses compatible with EU and Schengen area criteria.
Yosef Gavriel Peisakh, General Manager of the foreign recruitment agency Work from Asia, recently returned to the country from the Philippines, where he has been supporting one of the largest non-EU labor selection campaigns for Romania, writes Adevărul.
"We have been recruiting Asian TIR drivers for Romania for about 8 years now, which is why our know-how is essential to meet this massive target of recruiting about 3000 TIR drivers from the Philippines. Currently we can talk about a bottleneck in the road haulage sector, for which we receive alarming signals from Romanian hauliers. There is an urgent need for staff, because we are talking about businesses that are losing serious money due to a lack of manpower," said Yosef Gavriel Peisakh.
According to a study carried out by the National Union of Carriers, the road transport market in Romania has reached a value of almost 19 billion euros in 2023 and is growing steadily.
The solution of the Philippine TIR drivers is a viable one for the Romanian transportation market, because we are talking about personnel with proven experience of working abroad and a rigorous recruitment process that guarantees Romanian employers a motivated workforce to work in our country.
The exclusive responsibilities of the agency for the recruitment of foreign workers primarily involve testing in the country of origin of the personnel, drawing up the necessary documentation in order to obtain the work permit and residence permit, as well as the exchange of the driving license and the issuance of the professional driver's license in Romania.
"The selection criteria aim to test practical and technical knowledge, for which a truck and a polygon is rented for each test day. Of course, the candidates' knowledge of English is also essential, and we make sure that before their arrival in the country, the Philippine TIR drivers undergo a training that includes: knowledge of driving and resting times, CMR, European road tolls, loading and distribution of goods on the axles, customs documents and all other information known by Romanian TIR drivers", added Yosef Gavriel Peisakh.
500 Filipinos, brought to care for the elderly and people with disabilities In addition to recruiting truck drivers for the automotive industry, next year the agency Work from Asia will also bring to Romania about 500 caregivers from the Philippines to fill the acute shortage of labor in nursing homes and care centers for the disabled.
"Of all foreign workers, my experience of over 14 years in the industry has shown me that Filipino staff are the most reliable and well-trained non-EU personnel. From how serious and hardworking they are, to the level of good training Filipino workers have, they are considered to be a premium workforce around the world," added Yosef Gavriel Peisakh, General Manager Work from Asia
